In Reuniting With Beauty the richness of gold fills this painting. On top of the gold are flower-like petals made by twirling a piece of balsa wood dipped in gesso. The hint of a teardrop comes from the center of the main flower, noting that to fully appreciate beauty one needs to experience the depth of life, which comes with its own sadness. Still, there is lightness, in the wisp of the leaves, where my calligraphic marks pull the painting together.

I am a painter and a poet. Sometimes my paintings are inspired by my poems, sometimes the other way around. Lately, they are created in the same week, as in this pair.

REUNITING WITH BEAUTY

Morning is here.
I awake to the newness
of the day.
I awake to the adventure
it holds.

Today, like every day,
I have a chance to start over,
to greet the sun,
to smell the flowers,
to bathe in nature
and breathe her in.

Today I smile
with the universe.

Today I accept
the invitation
that beauty brings.
