The Sacred Life 22x30”

THE SACRED LIFE

There comes a time
when you want to run.
Run as far away as you can.

Run from your life.
Run from the task
that is so large
it cannot be done.

But your feet don’t move.

And slowly
life opens up
and help appears.
Not in the form you expect
but in secrets
and winding roads
and gateways into
the world you long for
but don’t know how to reach.

And the task
doesn’t get easier
but life gets more beautiful
with a richness you couldn’t imagine
and a warmth you had never felt

as you directly face
the immensity
of what you are
called to do.

This Journey to Ixtlan 30x12”

THIS JOURNEY TO IXTLAN

They say it never happened,
this journey to Ixtlan.
That this knowledge of ancient peoples
existed only in Carlos Castenada’s mind.

That my whole belief system —
wisdom of the unknown,
this opening to the wonders of the world,
places beyond what I can conceive
and want to touch —
they say he made it all up.

They say that Indian natives
don’t have this culture,
that you can’t “stop the world,”
that knowing the difference between
hunter, warrior and sorcerer
doesn’t lead to a life of knowledge.

But all my spiritual growth began here,
when Paul gave me this book
and worlds opened up.
For others it was Herman Hesse,
for me it was the teachings of Don Juan.

And while drugs and
going back to the land
didn’t have the same resonance,
I knew sacred wisdom was out there
for me to discover
at some point in my life —
the ways of indigenous people,
the life that cannot be
logically explained.

They say what he taught
isn’t true
but something inside me
knows that it is.

The Road to Nowhere 21x23”

THE ROAD TO NOWHERE

A happy ending seems unnecessary
when the journey is deep.
When stars awaken you
and love strikes a path.
When silence happens
at any time.
When you fall away
into his arms,
into another world.

The sun within you rises.
You slow down — only for a moment —
but you know you can.
You feel the life you want.
You can breathe it,
almost taste it.
It is not a means to an end
but a path full and rich.
A trek into the unknown
with no light to shine the way
yet every step knows where to go.

There is no happy ending
only a road
speckled with beauty.

Unfolding Beauty 20x14”

UNFOLDING BEAUTY

Take your time
and be everywhere you are.

Be here in the mountaintop
overlooking the vast land
Be here in the land
grounding your feet
Be here in your feet
holding your body
Be here in your body
housing your heart
Be here in your heart
opening your connection to others
Be here with others
opening to the oneness of the world
Be here with the world
evolving in mysterious ways.

Approach her with grace
and she will lead you
to unfolding beauty.
