The circle is an image that shows up in many of my paintings. They are inspired by the Zen mediation practice of drawing the ensō. This symbolizes many things including: strength, elegance, oneness and wholeness. It also shows the state of mind of the artist at the moment of creation and the acceptance of imperfection, as there is no touching up. Here the circle is floating in the sky, and has more of western look to it, than a traditional ensō.
My paintings are never planned. They have a beginning, usually inspired by a poem I wrote, where I start with some marks and see what needs to go next. It is a very interactive process; the paintings form as I am creating them. They always lead me somewhere, and I never know where until it is done.
EMBRACING ETERNITY
Embracing eternity
I take the path
into the unknown
with deep secrets
and vanishing horizons,
the feeling
of never arriving
because there is no place
where eternity lives.
It is a depth
that can never be reached
a longing
that is never filled
an entwining
that can never be close enough.
It is the endless journey
of life creating itself.
