31 Lessons in Art
Self-Paced Lessons 2-5, 6-9, 10-13, 14-17, 18-21, 22-25, 26-29 and 30-33 available. See below.
The overall plan is to create a little book that houses one’s daily paintings. Students, however, are not tied to the book idea, nor needing to paint every day. The classes are lessons in art which cover topics including: The Double Primary Palette, The Munsell Color System, Asemic Writing, Wabi-Sabi, The Golden Rectangle, The Seed of Life, Inspirations from Dick Beasley (my teacher), The Elements and Principles of Design, Using Wooden Tools, Making a Folded Pen, etc. There will be a total of 31 lessons (one for every day of the month) plus 2 bonus lessons.
Now you can study at your own pace. In each lesson I give an overview of the painting we will be working on with its specific topic. There is either a slide show or a talk presentation. We also look at what the students have posted online from the previous class exercises. And then we paint together. I demonstrate and the students can follow what I do or go off on their own tangent. Some just like to be entertained for the hour and watch later to do their own painting. It’s all okay.
The full course is a very unique learning situation. It is from a calligrapher-turned-abstract-artist’s point of view. This is an abstract painting class. Lettering is rarely covered. Asemic writing is often used when the calligraphic line is needed.
There are no prerequisites for these classes. No need to have taken any of the previous classes, or to be a painter or calligrapher. However, all the previous lessons are available as prerecorded lessons. (see below)
I will be demonstrating in a hand-made 4x3" book (see below for prerecorded class on how to make the book) or you can use a journal or just paper.
